HISTORY
Kings Heath National Spiritualist was founded in the 1920’s in York Road, Kings Heath. This building was a hut that was well beyond its best. Two founders of the current church Molly Whitehouse and Jessie Drinkwater remembered having to spend all day once shoring up the floor with a sheet of metal and hoping that people would not clomp too much as they entered.
The committee eventually found a large old house in Springfield Road which they purchased and let out as two flats. Arrangements were made for planning permission and plans drawn up for the new church. Months and months rolled by with rejection and disappointments from the Planning Department of the City of Birmingham; however, eventually permission was obtained and fund-raising activities took off in earnest.
The new church was finally opened on 13th September 1969 by the then National President, Dr Winning, Jessie Drinkwater chaired and Gordon Higginson attended as the invited speaker and demonstrator.
The Committees over the years have continued to maintain the building and everyone attending any of the events is assured of a warm and courteous welcome.
